A hot new topic appears on Weibo, the Chinese most popular micro-blog. Yang LI is the inventor of Crazy English, which promotes Li's method of practicing English by shouting out loud. His methods has gained a large amount of popularity, even attaining celebrity status, in China as well as other Asian countries.
Li is a legendary person, he has encouraged many people who are shy to speak English overcome their timidity and begin to talk in English. He has been an idol with symbol of boldness, patriotism, hope and love. However, micro-blog posts by his wife, an American lady named Kim, has turned over his image drastically.
Not many people know his wife, who is low-key in life. In the past two month, Kim posted a image with well on her head and posts like "It would be easier if love had just disappeared the minute that your hand struck my face, but it did not. Seeing that you were having make up applied for TV appearance while I was in hospital hurts more than your slamming my head on the floor." "You knocked me to the floor. You sat on my back. You choked my neck with both hands and slammed my head into the flloor. When I pried your hands from my neck you grabbed my hair and slammed my head into the floor ten more times!" "You are an educated person. You must recognize this behavior is not mentally sound. I must divorce you for the sake of our girls. I will never teach them to hate you, you are their father. I will teach them to hate your behavior." "LY, I promised to not post on my weibo until after you appeared at the police station this evening to face your charges. You failed to appear. My primary goal continues to get you the help that you need. A problem cannot be helped until you admit that you have one."
These posts have attracted many micro-bloggers - who are outrageous, thinking unbelievable. Many people also provide legal help for Kim. The latest post by Kim was "LY faced police charges, admitted the truth, accepted responsibility and asked forgiveness. With courage, love and faith in God, we will sort out the rest. My family needs to heal. Everlasting thanks for all support, understanding and love." Meanwhile, on Li's micro-blog, he admitted the fact and said he was under treatment by psychologist.
This is another case showing social media's overwhelming power. From social media a person is possible to lose all his/her reputation all in a night, from social media a person can seek for help much faster than from traditional media. Kim is not verified as "Li's wife" or something on Weibo, public knows her as Li's wife through their communication online. Now Li is facing a serious personal and career crisis as a social celebrity. Simply to say, he is a teacher, promoting his educational belief and methods in front of millions' students, how can people believe domestic violence is related to such a social responsible teacher? To Kim, she is so lucky that social media helped her get the sad news spread and provide as much help from the public. To the public, social media is like a magician, they will never know what they are gonna see or hear next, but oftentimes, social media is more honest than a magician, it reveals facts.
